Did you ever stay up late at night reading under the covers when you were supposed to be asleep?  Did you ever study the cover of a book in anticipation of when that scene would appear in the story?  Did you ever imagine yourself as part of that story, of traveling through the landscape of the author's imagination, of meeting the characters and creatures so vividly portrayed on paper with little black letters?  Did you look forward to the next moment you could relive that story in your mind?  Did you ever want to write those stories and dream up those worlds for yourself?

The answer to all of these questions is: yes

And where can you experience these same stories and art?  Where can you enjoy the talents of others, and even have an opportunity to have your own works published?

You can in Speculative Fiction Illustrated.

Speculative Fiction Illustrated, or SFI, is a periodical created to showcase the talents of amateur writers and artists.  The theme of the magazine is speculative fiction, which includes, but is not limited to, science fiction, fantasy, surrealism, folk legends,  and magical realism.  Within the speculative realm, we promote timeless stories and art that can be enjoyed for years to come and never seem out of date.  We publish works that can be enjoyed by all audiences, and that have a universal appeal and theme.  We also promote clean literature and art that doesn't contain the offensive images and language that has become the hallmark of modern fiction.

The format and style of  SFI is meant to feel a bit old-school, somewhat nostalgic—comforting in that as you hold it in your hands you can feel the pace of the modern world slacken a bit.  You can settle in, relax, let your mind clear, and get lost in your imagination.

cooperation, and mutual effort. There is no one independent.
